Green tartan Midi Dress
Some tartan dresses are built to be admired standing still. This one is built to actually move in — walk in it, sit in it, put your hands in the pockets while you’re waiting for someone. The green, navy and red tartan is rich rather than bright, and the construction around it does a lot of work that a lot of tartan dresses skip entirely.
The Bodice
The chest panel is smocked — shirred fabric gathered into rows that stretch slightly with movement. It’s a different approach to fit than a darted or seamed bodice: instead of being cut to one exact measurement, the smocking gives it a bit of natural give, which makes this one of the more forgiving fits in our tartan range if your measurements shift slightly season to season. The square neckline sits above it, simple and unfussy, echoing a similar shape to the smocked panel it sits above.
The Sleeves
These are full balloon sleeves, fuller through the arm than a puff sleeve and gathered into a ruffled cuff at the wrist. It’s the most dramatic sleeve in our range, and it changes the whole feel of the dress — this reads more storybook and romantic than the fitted or A-line styles elsewhere in our collection.
The Waist
Instead of a fixed seam, this dress ties at the waist with a self-fabric belt, finished in a bow. That means you control exactly how fitted the waist looks — tie it snug for more definition, or looser for a relaxed fit. It’s also simply easier to adjust for comfort across a long day than a sewn-in waistband would be.
The Skirt, and the Pockets
Below the waist, the skirt is fully gathered rather than flat-fronted, giving it real volume and movement as you walk. It falls to midi length — past the knee, well above the ankle — and, worth calling out specifically, it has real pockets. For a dress this detailed, that’s not a given, and it’s the kind of practical detail that makes a dress genuinely wearable rather than just photogenic.
The Tartan
Green, navy and red in a fine check, close in feel to the green tartans elsewhere in our range but styled here for a softer, more romantic dress rather than a tailored one. It reads as autumnal and countryside-appropriate — this is a dress that looks right against stone steps and ivy rather than a city street, if that’s a useful way to picture where it fits.
How to Wear It
Nude or tan heels keep the look soft and let the green tartan stay the statement piece — a black shoe would sharpen the look considerably if that’s more your styling preference. This dress suits daytime events, autumn weddings, or anywhere you want to be dressed up but still comfortable enough to actually spend the day on your feet.
Sizing Note
Because both the bodice and waist have built-in flexibility — the smocking and the tie belt — this is one of the more adjustable fits in our collection. Still check the size guide for the shoulder and bust measurement, since the smocking stretches but doesn’t compensate for a genuinely wrong size.
A Softer Take on Green Tartan
If you want the same green tartan family in a more fitted, tailored silhouette, we also carry it as a sheath dress elsewhere in the range. This version is the one to choose when comfort and movement matter as much as the pattern does.
