mustard herringbone tweed waistcoat stay inside a narrow colour range — brown, grey, the occasional green. This one sits further out: a warm mustard and olive herringbone, with a fine blue windowpane check that most people won’t notice until they’re standing close to it.
The Weave
Herringbone gives this waistcoat its base texture, the same zigzag weave that makes tweed read as rich and dimensional rather than flat. Layered over it is a subtle blue windowpane check — thin lines crossing at intervals, similar to the effect on our grey waistcoat but here set against a much warmer gold-brown base instead of grey. The combination is unusual enough to stand out without tipping into novelty.
The Cut
Same traditional construction as the rest of our range: five buttons, fitted through the chest and waist, a welt pocket at the chest, two lower pockets. The tailoring stays consistent across every waistcoat we make — it’s the fabric that changes the character of each one, not the shape.
Made to Your Measurements
Chest measured over a shirt, waist measurement sent alongside it — the same process as every tailored piece in this range. A close-fitting waistcoat shows up a wrong measurement fast, so it’s worth taking the extra minute to get both numbers right before ordering.
How to Wear It, Casually
This is styled here in a way our other waistcoats haven’t been — over a denim chambray shirt, sleeves rolled, with navy trousers that don’t match the waistcoat at all. It’s a deliberately casual pairing, and it works because the warm gold tone of the tweed sits easily against denim in a way a black or white formal shirt wouldn’t. If you want a tweed waistcoat that doesn’t automatically read as “formalwear,” this colourway is built for exactly that.
How to Wear It, Formally
The same waistcoat moves into properly dressed-up territory with a white shirt and a solid or subtly patterned tie — brown, burgundy or navy all pick up naturally from the tones already in the tweed. Add matching or complementary trousers instead of navy denim-toned ones, and this becomes a standard three-piece waistcoat rather than the deliberately relaxed look shown here.
Care
Standard tweed care: avoid washing often, brush it out after wear, and take it to a dry cleaner rather than a washing machine when it needs cleaning. This applies across every tweed piece in our range regardless of colour.
A Waistcoat for Two Different Wardrobes
Because it works dressed up or dressed down, this is one of the more flexible pieces in our tweed range — a genuinely different option from the more strictly formal grey and brown waistcoats elsewhere in the collection, without straying from the same quality of construction.
Five-button front, welt chest pocket, two lower pockets in the same clean traditional cut. The blue check adds a small, unexpected detail against the warm gold tone of the herringbone, without turning the waistcoat into something busy. Styled here with a denim chambray shirt and navy trousers rather than a matching set — proof this waistcoat doesn’t need to be kept inside a formal three-piece look. Works just as well dressed up with a white shirt and tie. Made to your own chest and waist measurements.
