Tartan Jackets
A tartan jacket is one of the loudest things a person can wear, and how loud it reads has more to do with the tartan than the cut. A weathered or muted sett settles into a dark check at a normal conversation distance and works in almost any room. A bright modern tartan doesn’t try to hide, and for some occasions that’s the entire point.
Three Ways We Cut It
- Blazer — structured, single-breasted, cut like a suit jacket. The most formal of the three.
- Casual jacket — soft shoulder, unstructured, built to be worn without a tie.
- Outerwear — heavier weight, cut to layer over a jumper rather than a shirt.
Same tartan cloth across all three — the choice is really about how structured you want the shoulder and how you plan to wear it.
Made to Your Measurements
Every jacket is cut to your own chest, shoulder and sleeve rather than a standard size chart. Have your chest measured over a shirt rather than a jumper, and send us your shoulder and sleeve measurements too — a patterned jacket shows up fit errors at the seams faster than a plain one does.
Choose Your Tartan
Pick from any clan tartan, or send us your own custom tartan and we’ll cut it in that instead. Since the jacket is the pattern, keep what’s underneath plain — a solid shirt, trousers pulled from the darker tone in the sett, and skip the tie unless it’s solid. A tartan tie on a tartan jacket is the one combination that never quite works, even when the setts technically match.
Complete the Outfit
Pair with a tartan waistcoat for a matched set, or browse Argyll Jackets if you want the formal Highland kilt-jacket cut instead of a standalone blazer.
Send your chest, shoulder and sleeve measurements, choose your tartan, and we’ll cut it to size.
